On Fox News I read an article about the Pentagon shooter and his background. What interested me is not that he opened fire and wounded two, but that I read the underlying need of the article. Bedells parents, especially his mother, had tried to have the man who was diagnosed as Bipolar and Manic Depressive hospitalized. However, since he is an adult he can refuse treatment and that is what happened. His mother had tried to seek help for him and yet was turned away. Thankfully the two shot appear to be alive, but they were in critical condition. Bedell was killed as a result. This could have been prevented if there were better laws in our society to prevent people from being institutionalized. We have these concepts that mentally ill people have the right to accept or decline treatment yet most of the time they are on disability because we view them as in capable of maintaining employment. Yet we think that they can make appropriate decisions regarding their treatments.

BBC News
On BBC News I read about Anti-Afghan War Soldier who was AWOL, but after two years he turned himself into authorities. It was an interesting read as I think we rarely see the reasoning behind the soldiers who go AWOL. He made a valid point as to the fact that he was due to be deployed 9 months after returning from deployment. It stated in the article that they usually wait 18 months to redeploy to prevent PTSD or if they are diagnosed it allows time to see the trauma suffered.
I also read about a woman who was murdered by an ex-boyfriend due to him seeing her picture with her new boyfriend on Facebook. He flew from Trinidad to London and stabbed the 27 year old accountant to death. He was outraged and jealous of her new boyfriend. He has been found guilty, but awaits sentencing. This was interesting as I have had great concerns over some of the content that people are putting on the internet, especially young adults and 20 something year olds.
Another interesting article was on Animal Cruelty in Switzerland and the need for the animals to be appointed legal counsel. Currently there is one attorney that does represent animals in court. He has won some and lost some cases, but believes that anyone without a voice should be represented and heard. Switzerland has strict laws on animal cruelty, but have not been able to enforce them as well as many would like to see done.

CNN News Over the past week
On CNN I read about Women’s Day. This was an interesting article as I have debated this topic with others around the world about women suffering in countries and not extending equal rights to women. I was happy to see that women from around the world are coming together to stand up for the rights of women and especially to hear what Hilary Clinton had to say. It is true that women are undereducated and lack proper health care and necessities in many countries.
Another article I read was on 9/11 and how the Iranian president made a statement that it was a lie. He talks as if it was planned by American CIA to find a way into the Middle East to protect American interests there such as oil. It is interesting that he had no factual data, but just spoke of the fact that America was mischievous in their reasons for entering Iraq and Afghanistan.
I really enjoyed using bloglines to locate feeds and read the feeds over the course of a week. This feed did provide RSS feeds.
